	Taiwan Ghost Research Chapter 44 Supplementary Information on "Ghost Research" Author :Chang Kai-Chi      張開基 translation:北展昭 (You are welcomed to share or reprint but please indicate the source and author) I used to like to read all kinds of "ghost stories" when I was young. No matter it is Chinese or Western ones. The collection of ghost stories also piles up in my  bookcases for many years. However, I have ceased reading them for more than ten years. Recently, someone posted the numeral articles of "Readings Notes in Hay Cabin" and it reminds my good old days. Now I have a better understandings abut these stories after my persistent  ghost researching. Moreover, this ancient book was written by Qing Dynasty scholar, Ji Xiao Lan, was also the famous "Siku Quanshu (encyclopedia)" complier as he was commissioned to compile.  In this book, the ghost story contents are so rich and the articles about ghosts and foxes all were indicated the source and area name. In this aspect, it seems more reliable than the "Strange Tales of Liaozhai"! However, the original text is classical Chinese. I found one translation of the vernacular text and is listed as follows, Readings Notes in Hey Cabin Sorrowing Ghost Mrs. Tai’s wife, Cao’s, can see ghosts. When she reunited with original family, she talked about the Underworld with my Grandmom and said: "It was an surprising to see a ghost in someone's house yesterday. However, the situation was pitiful and it made people feel heartbroken. Ghost A, lived in a village with well-off family before his death and passed away was twenty-seven years old.. After the first death of 100 days, the woman invited Cao to accompany her, seeing ghost under the lilac tree in the courtyard, hearing the woman crying, kid's tearing, or brothers and sisters arguing, although the yang energy forced him could not get close. After seeing the matchmaker to the women's room, he was shocked. After the none-matching, he felt happy. When the matcher visited again, within the brothers and sisters talking, he would listen thm sneakly. The widow was fixing to marry again, ghost would sat under the tree, looking straight into his previous wife's bedroom, tears like rain. On the eve of the engagement, the woman received a whole bunch of cookwares.   The ghost was leaning against the pillars and bowing body as if thinking. Slightly heard the buzz in the room, and sneaked into the room and stayed around whole night. Why ghost missed the wife so mush?   The new husband arrived and directly escorted her to the new house.  The ghost hided followed them and still looking forward to the woman. Ms. Cao (owned the ghost-seeing eyes) went out k and saw that ghost was far away.  The woman entered the room then he sneaked slightly near the window. Eventually he was driven away by the house guardian deity so he had to run away like a stray dog. eventually he heard his child was crying at old home. Ghost found the kid and tried to hold him but could not embrace. When the sister-in-law came out and slapped the child face becasue of loud crying, the ghost felt so sorrowful in heart. Ms. Cao can't bear to see it so she directly leave. Afterwards Cao could not help but told the previous wife , the woman was remorseful. Then village widows heard such story then swore they would not marry again . Author: This story is good reference information. I am not encouraging any traditional but unreasonable manners (such as do not re-marry). It is only used to explain why there are many "ghosts" who will remain in this world after death and refuse to leave. All the reason behind is because of "obsession" and self-limitation?
